Great book Very well written. Lots of good insight into the admissions process. The profiles are very detailed with quotes. AdmissionsConsultants spent a lot of time visiting these schools and doing thier research. The school selection tool has a lot of variables to choose from.You are not going to be able to quickly use it if you want to put thought into the process but thats the way it probably should be.

Very Detailed and In Depth – FS Young – Washington DC
This book gives you more in-depth reports (6-8 pages on each school) than any other MBA book out there. It’s got all the info you might want about admissions, student life, academics, etc. I haven’t tried the CD-ROM, but it looks like it would be useful in helping to choose an MBA program.

Must read for all MBA hopefuls – Nicole Witt – Tampa, FL USA
What a great book! It provides a perspective that other books miss with the focus on “fit” in determining your personal school rankings. I highly recommed this book to all MBA applicants who want to make sure that they focus their time, money, and energy on only the schools that are right for them.

While this won’t apply to everyone, I used this review during the 12 days studying that I had to study for the test and was able to boost my estimated score by about 100 points. In the end I got a 710 on this test, so that should provide a good selling point.

The best aspect of this book is that it teaches you how to think like the test makers. On all of the practice problems there is a solid explanation for the correct answer along with justifications for the false answers.

The other great thing is that the book doesn’t waste time. It only teaches the material that will be covered on the test, and it teaches the process of elimination techniques that you’ll need to work through the test questions as fast as you’ll need to.

I’d strongly recommend this book over any other book out there.

Customer Reviews

Great Study Tool for the GMAT – K. Nelson –
The book has been very helpful in studying for the GMAT and I would recommend it for people who need to review for the test. It has examples and practices tests that will help you prepare for the GMAT.

Good Intro to the GMAT, but inadequate for people seeking higher GMAT scores – BeatTheGMAT.com – San Francisco, CA
I self studied and scored a 770 on the GMAT. Here are my thoughts on Princeton Review’s Cracking the GMAT book:

===== OVERVIEW =====

The Princeton Review Cracking the GMAT book is, like the Kaplan GMAT 2010 Premier Live Online book, a general GMAT strategy guide. However, apart from the natural similarities (such as separate chapters for the 5 types of problems you will see on the GMAT plus an essay section), the two books follow markedly different “paths to knowledge”.

As advertised from the beginning, The Princeton Review Cracking the GMAT is not a guide that emphasizes building subject-matter skills in the quantitative or verbal fields, but rather focuses on what the authors call “cracking the system” – tips and tricks to help you score higher with an obvious preference for process of elimination (POE) and picking numbers. Personally, I do not fully support such strategies for the GMAT (I consider them more as backup plans). Here’s why: POE cannot and will never replace actually knowing the answer to a question, it will just improve your chances of getting it right. Picking numbers is also quite risky: I sometimes see this strategy discussed in online forums; people try to pick numbers, but particularly at an advanced level they pick the wrong set of numbers and everything falls apart.

The book is a pleasant read though, and I personally found the small info boxes on the sides of pages to be quite entertaining and interesting. The authors use “the average test taker” for examples of do’s and don’ts. However, I didn’t like the authors’ tone for describing the GMAT – I felt an overall negative vibe about the test, which was not the case when I read The PowerScore GMAT Critical Reasoning Bible for instance. An example would come from the Reading Comprehension chapter: “No one in her right mind would ever read one of these passages of her own free will. They are almost always boring.” I strongly disagree with this view, since I personally enjoyed most texts, particularly those dealing with the social sciences. My advice is to think of the GMAT as a sort of mind game you have to beat, an interesting little challenge. I assure you that feeling positive about the GMAT will make the experience a lot less painful.

===== PROS =====

* A good introduction to the GMAT, an easy read to make you understand what the test is about, how it’s scored, and what to expect on test day

* If your quantitative skills are not fresh, definitely give this book a chance. It covers math basics pretty well. Again, the fact that it’s an easy read will probably help you reconnect with junior high and high school math

* Questions are structured in “bins” according to difficulty, which means you can focus on your particular level when you practice

* The book comes with a registration code you can use to gain online access to four CATs (computer-adaptive practice tests). However, I felt that these practice tests were a bit easier than the actual GMAT

===== CONS =====

* If you’re shooting for a higher score (above 600), this book won’t help much. You will need other resources to help you reach your goal

* At just over 280 questions, this book has fewer and easier practice questions as compared to other guides (like Kaplan GMAT 2010 Premier Live Online). Also the explanations could use some more work, particularly in verbal. I personally get really upset if the best explanation for why an answer is wrong is “because it’s out of scope”! This will definitely not help a test taker understand where her error in reasoning was!

* The focus on strategies such as POE and number picking means that you’ll have some potentially useful tools for G-day, but such strategies might backfire. Cracking the GMAT does not provide an in-depth analysis of question types and their respective approaches

===== BOTTOM LINE =====

After going through The Princeton Review’s Cracking the GMAT, all I can truly say is this: the book is good, but only for a certain level (that is, up to mid-600s). As a basic guide, it shines; as a tool for getting into that top 10 MBA, I do not think it delivers. If you do not already know your starting level, I advise you to do the following: go to [...], download the free GMATPrep software, and take practice test #1 (save #2 for the last days of your prep!). If you score significantly below 600, consider investing in this book. If you score higher than 600, you’d best search for a different resource since you’ll need a more rigorous program to get to a higher percentile score.

About me: Dana Jinaru, 770 GMAT scorer, expert at Beat The GMAT – a community serving 100K+ GMAT students/month

A good study resource – Andrew F – Seattle, WA
I took the GMAT without studying at all years ago and scored in the upper 80s. Had I used this studyguide, I’m sure I could have cracked the 90s. This study guide provides a wealth of knowledge about how the GMAT is scored, as well as strategies to taking the test and how to approach different kinds of problems. The only down-side is that the only way you can get official GMAT questions is by buying the office GMAT book. Also, this book seems to be geared towards the middle of the road test-takers, making large portions of it not very helpful if you are already a decent test taker.

The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave: How to Recognize the Subtle Signs and Act Before It’s Too Late Overview

More than 85% of managers believe employees leave because they have been pulled away by “more pay” or “better opportunity.” Yet, more than 80 percent of employees say it was “push” factors related to poor management practices or toxic cultures that drove them out. This gaping disparity between belief and reality keeps organizations from addressing the costly problems of employee disengagement and regrettable turnover with on-target solutions.The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave gives readers a deeper understanding of why conventional exit interviewing doesn’t work, and what organizations can do to identify, prevent, and correct the root causes of these problems. This valuable book shows how to avoid job-person mismatches, how to align employee expectations with the realities of the position and the company, how to provide constructive feedback and coaching that breeds employee confidence, and much more.The 7 Hidden Reasons Employees Leave incorporates data from surveys of 19,700 employees performed by the Saratoga Institute, an internationally recognized research organization.

Why survey – answers right here – Ohmagine – USA
Save your company money and just read this book. Seems like everyone has similar problems at different scales. Engaging employees is common sense – listen, relate, develop, show you care, be fair, value opinions, pay fairly, challenge and on and on. Easy read too.

Valuable insights regarding a valuable asset at every organization. – Rebecca Clement – Philadelphia, PA
A compelling case could be made that the most important asset of an organization is its people, and the key to business success is keeping the right employees on your payroll. Employee-retention guru, Leigh Branham does an excellent job highlighting the top-seven reasons why great employees leave their organizations. She uses robust data and behavioral survey results to glean these hidden informational gems from the research, while offering steps that employers can take to stem the exodus – which is why Soundview likes this book. Branham not only isolates each reason but provides insightful diagnostic steps to identify the early warning signs of employee disengagement and ways to spur mutual dialogue and respect among employee and employer. If your people are important to you, than this is an important book to read.

Helps get your mind around the problem – Clyde Wilber – Washington DC
This book is well written. It lays the basis for why the reasons people leave is mis-understood. It gives specific guidance on things you can do to bring new employees in and keep them.

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) Review

This book picks up in the lives of Katniss and Peeta following their win of The Hunger Games, and their win over The Capitol. They live on eggshells as they try to keep The Capitol pacified, but unrest is rising in the districts. And The Capitol is not happy– not one little bit.

I don’t want to say too much, as I don’t want to give up the twists and turns that make this book so much fun. Katniss remains as spirited and impulsive as she was in the first book. Poor Gale is in torment over the relationship between Katniss and Peeta, but is still strong and convicted. Peeta and Prim remain as sweet and good and pure as driven snow, and Haymitch remains the antithesis of them, tied up and buried under his past with the help of a drunken haze. The mysterious entanglements of the districts, their history, The Capitol, and underground movements slowly begin to unravel and reveal themselves.

If you’ve read The Hunger Games, and you enjoyed it, please, please, please crack open Catching Fire today. You won’t be disappointed!

Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) Overview

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Customer Reviews

An In-Demand Book – E. Heckman –
I recommend Catching Fire. You will be hooked. If you connect with Suzanne Collins fans who have also read Hunger Games, this book will be in demand.

Amazon provided a great product and a great service! I will be going to Amazon for future purchases.

Liked it – Cturner – Friendswood, TX United States
**spoiler alert** Catching Fire seemed like a repeat of the first but I still found myself at the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. I was floored when Katnis and Peeta found themselves right back in the games! The games themselves could have been a little more suspenseful but I thought it was a very well written book. I do hope that in the next installment Collins brings Gale’s character to life because I am not believing the love triangle at all. You just don’t see enough of him and Kat together to really get a feel for their love. One other thing I wish was brought more into the book was the revolution. I felt like Collins focused a lot of the book on the games and not enough on the uprising. I am very excited to read the next book since I have a feeling that it will be centered around taking the capital down! Team Peeta all the way!

Catching Fire – Allison – USA
What to say, what to say. Catching Fire started a little slow for me, but once it got going… boy, did it get going. I was a little curious about how the sequel to The Hunger Games would play out, and this book certainly surprised me. In fact, every time I thought I knew what was going on, there was another twist.

I love the characters in these books! There are so many awesome people, and they’re all so different. It’s interest watching them interact and seeing what’s going on inside their heads, because it’s never what you think. I was kept guessing right up until the last few pages.

I cannot wait for the third book. Seriously. And, even though I couldn’t decide after The Hunger Games, I am confident now when I say I am Team Peeta! Five stars!

The Help Review

I loved this book. It takes place in 1962 in Jackson, Mississippi, where Minny and Aibileen are black domestic help for two white families. Skeeter Phelan has just graduated from Ole Miss and comes home for awhile with aspirations of becoming a journalist. She chafes at her mother’s constant judgments of her clothing and behavior as well as the prejudice of her high school friends Hilly Holbrook and Elizabeth Lefolte. She also desperately misses her childhood companion and nanny, Constantine,who has disappeared and no one will tell her where or why.

Through the voices of Minny, Aibileen and “Miss Skeeter,” the story unfolds with vivid and aching realism. The voices and dialects are pitch perfect, as are the conflicting emotions, loyalties and tensions between domestics and the members of the families they serve. Besides the issues of overt prejudice (total segregation, separation of black and white bathrooms, no sharing of food and dishes, Klan activity, etc.), the book also explores the dark side of social mores and the exclusivity that can be developed that ostracizes people (including whites of perceived lower socioeconomic status) often on the whim of a group leader.

As a result of a series of events, the three protagonists–at great risk to their own and their familes’ safety–join forces to tell–and publish–the stories of at least 12 black women who work as domestic servants in the area. Their stories are poignant and varied, but in spite of this book being fiction, I believe it captures a snapshot of a piece of society in that time and place.

I suspect that having Southern roots and family from South Carolina contributed to my enjoyment and appreciation for this book. It touched on so many class- and race-related things that are both cherished and controversial among Southerners, and I felt Stockett handled them sensitively, accurately, and with great compassion for all sides.

The Help Overview

Three ordinary women are about to take one extraordinary step.

Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone.

Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken.

Minny, Aibileen’s best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody’s business, but she can’t mind her tongue, so she’s lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position working for someone too new to town to know her reputation. But her new boss has secrets of her own.

Seemingly as different from one another as can be, these women will nonetheless come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating within the lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don’t.

Customer Reviews

Memories – Eileen Key – San Antonio, TX
The Help has made me relive spurts of my childhood in the deep South. And feel ashamed. What an accurate portrayal of the times. Excellent read. Thank you!

Great book! – S. Ogle – GA
This book mixed fiction with history in a way that worked beautifully. From the first chapter, I could hardly put it down wanting to know what was going to happen next. Definetly should be on your must read list.

BadBadBad – D. D. Young –
Worst book set in the South I have ever read. The dialogue is ridiculous and uneven and certainly not true to the ear. The characters are examples of the worst type of stereotypes. You want to know about the South? Read Percy, Rick Bragg, Welty, O’Connor or any of the dozens and dozens of wonderful Southern writers and leave this mess alone.
We have over 60 different types of companies in over 35 industries with our mobile washing facilities to wash served, everything from cars and aircraft of the railway.

We have the letters for each type of service that we offer. And I rememberwith over 400 different points of sale, including custom logo, various versions of our brand. It worked great. To this end I have a very simple book that was written long ago. It is a book that I'm still on my shelf in my library business, and this tome I build my credit for the idea, the best-selling records for my company. The name of the book, and I commend you;

The Tome has several chapters to write how the different types of sales materials for the different types of services and products. And there is abundance and richnessInformation available.

There is also a chapter on how to contact a sales presentation with a letter of submission of a proposal. I can not emphasize how much this book helped me in my work, I bet they can help companies, a. I therefore intend to recommend this work for you.

Take advantage of world politics today and start your own import export business. Are you organized, efficient, and ready to make your future in an opportunity all your own? import Export Business Opportunities are expanding and there is room for you!

In the early nineteen eighties, one of the most popular things in Soviet Russia was American made blue jeans. Exporters made money hand over fist selling American made products to the East. Now, twenty years later, we have seen the fall of communism in many cold war countries. This has opened the door to the import export business companies to make handsome profits by moving goods from one continent to another.

Blue jeans in the former Soviet Union sell as good now as they did twenty years ago. But now it is not only blue jeans. American cars, computer and electronic devices, even beauty products are becoming a big business all over the eastern continents.

China has shown automobile sales in the last two years that rival the United States. Western culture, a mythical and mystical thing to many eastern countries, is being shipped in everyday. Trade embargoes are loosening and the profit margins are now being recognized all over the world.

Even the European nations are seeing an increase in their exports to the East. There are world economics at play now that were not even dreamed of twenty years ago. Imports and exports are being moved everyday, and you could play a profitable role in it all with your import export business.

Not only is there still the crave for Western Culture in the East, there is the need for lower cost goods here in the West. Importing goods from these same places can be as profitable as exporting to them. Imported products can be sold in a variety of ways from online stores and auctions to a storefront in your hometown.

There are also companies set up online that do importing and exporting and will contract you as a reseller. This can become extremely profitable. Most of the time you are not even required to keep an inventory. There is also a market for buying the imports these companies bring in and reselling them on auction sites and in retail outlets.

You will need to be aware of any taxes involved in both importing and exporting goods. Customs regulations and federal laws on imports and exports will need to be clarified before you start. Make sure that everything you are moving is legal and acceptable between countries.

Also, having a little capital to work with, say around one thousand US dollars; will allow you to get off to a solid start. Exporting goods on the Internet is one of the least expensive ways of getting started and can be done through existing import export companies.

Researching import export businesses can be done effectively online. There are many such small businesses (or at least, they started that way) who are willing to share the secrets of their success. Importing and exporting is not rocket science, nor does it require you to have a Ph.D. in economics.

One of the easiest things about import export businesses is that you are not dealing with direct sales. Most of your sales will be in bulk to distributors on the other end. This means that you will have to have little or no technical information about the products themselves, only whether they are legal or illegal to sell to that location.

Once started, you will be surprised at the income levels that can be achieved. Most importers and exporters say they were shocked that they could turn so much profit in so little time. Investigate your own import export business today!

Think and Grow Rich was written by Napoleon Hill in 1937. The teachings of the book are as relevant today as they were then. The book has inspired many business owners, it has effectively spawned an industry based on self improvement and development.

This series of articles applying the teaching of Thing and Grow Rich to business have been written specifically for owners of small businesses. Each article is accompanied by a supporting video.

It’s 2010 and the world is gradually recovering from a recession. While the recession has hit everyone hard, small business owners have felt the impact probably more than most. Many businesses have closed and many businesses have had to reduce their headcount. Most business owner became focussed on cost reduction at all costs. Most forgot that they had to sell to survive.

Not all people behaved in the same way and in some cases, business began to prosper. We have witnessed it first hand. The question is why.

Having read Think and Grow rich, it has become abundantly clear why some people thrive while others struggle.

Working with business owners every day, we find them asking for strategies to boost sales, to improve their team, to improve their customer service or to improve how their business works generally. Very occasionally, they ask for help with how they run their business, they ask for help with their mindset.

They understand that, for the business to run better and for the team to work better, they themselves must be better. To quote Jim Rohn, they must “work harder on themselves than they do on their business”. It is refreshing when a client like this comes along.

Napoleon Hill wrote the book having studied some of the greatest leaders of the industrialised world. He began to study their why and began to understand why they were different. He began to explore the power of a positive mindset, the power of focus and the impact that this can have over a period of time.

Small Business Owners day commonly suffer from cash flow challenges. This one challenge causes business to become myopic in their approach which is like driving in a think fog.

Our role as their business coach is to help them through the fog by making the destination clearer, by removing obstacles that may emerge and by giving them constant feedback on progress. We teach them to remain goal focussed, asking how can we rather than listening to naysayers and negative voices. The philosophies discussed in Think and Grow Rich support our work and are backed by success story after success story down through the years

Have you ever consider owning rental properties, but were unsure about the issues and legalities of the rental business? If so, I sure have the perfect book for you, one that will help keep you out of trouble and prevent you from getting taken to the cleaners. The book is called;

“Managing Rental Properties for Maximum Profits; Save Time and Money with Greg Perry’s Foolproof System for Buying the Right Properties, Finding and Keeping Good Tenants, Getting Paid On Time, Fixing and Maintaining Your Properties, Handling Tenant Complaints, Keeping Good Records and So Much More,” by Greg Perry; Prima Publishing, USA (1993); ISBN: 1-55958-572-2.

This book explains how to evict bad tenants and how not to get them in the first place. It explains the tricks to advertising for the best renters, so you can protect your properties, collect rents smoothly and have a hassle free rental business. Greg explains to the reader the goal of putting your properties on Auto Pilot, and improving your cash flow in the process.

Everything in this book has been great advice and Mr. Perry indeed knows his stuff. Although this book was written over a decade ago, all the advice on dealing with renters and tenants is timeless. There are chapters on record keeping, small claims courts, and selling the properties too. Mr. Perry at the time he wrote the book owned over 50-properties and was a former professor at a community college in Oklahoma.

I’d seriously recommend this book to anyone that owns rental properties or is considering renting out any of their existing properties. It also serves as a great guide for those considering on investing in rental properties. So please think on this.
